About The Event
A new police division will focus on helping homeless people get services and mental health treatment while also cracking down on those disrupting the quality of life of residents and businesses in certain neighborhoods.
San Diego Police Department’s new neighborhood policing division officially began Saturday and is headed by Capt. Scott Wahl, recently promoted from lieutenant and formerly the department’s public information officer for the past three years.
Wahl said the division will focus on neighborhood quality-of-life issues including graffiti, crime and homelessness.
“It’s about being proactive on crime-prevention techniques and strategies,” he said. “We’re going to have teams that will be proactive in addressing community concerns and issues.”
