Chapter Eternal

Richard Krantzman

Cal Theta 1973-1977

February 19, 1955 - May 27, 2024

Brother Richard Krantzman, affectionately known as "Kranny" by his friends, passed into Chapter Eternal on May 27, 2024, at the age of 69, surrounded by his family. A Bay Area native, Kranny relocated to attend San Diego State University.  As a freshman he joined ΣAE and became part of the Cal Theta Fall ’73 pledge class along with some notable cohorts such as Brad Young, Rob Socci, Bill Marckwardt, and his hometown friends Dave Butterfield and Gary VanCamp. Rich moved into the chapter house and quickly became known for his musical talent on the drums. The sounds of his craft would often be heard emanating throughout the house! He graduated from SDSU with a degree in Marketing and worked most of his career as a manufacturer’s rep in the auto parts industry. Kranny played in various local musical groups throughout his adult life, and always had a full drum set in his living room. In recent years, he hosted master class instructional sessions with well-known rock ’n roll recording artists as instructors. Rich served as an usher for decades at Humphrey’s Concerts by the Bay, thereby availing himself of a full concert schedule each summer. Kranny was briefly married, but then remained a bachelor throughout the rest of his life (despite the best efforts of the women that loved and adored him). Rich became increasingly active with the ΣAE San Diego Area Alumni Association and in 2022 he began to serve on the board of directors, as well as being involved with the Cal Theta chapter as a chapter advisor. Rich loved mentoring the active chapter members.

All ΣAE‘s are invited to a Memorial Service that is being hosted by friends Paul & April (LSM) Hinson on June 6th at 5:00 PM (2721 Hartford St., San Diego, CA). Please bring something to share.

May God bless you, Rich! Phi Alpha, Buddy!
